You won’t be able to look anywhere else while watching this stunning performance. On Britain’s Got Talent, nine women take the stage as Simon Cowell and the other judges get ready to be amazed.
The women are dressed as if they have just left a WWII-era movie set, complete with military uniforms, victory rolls, pinned hair, and cherry red lipstick—all instantly recognizable symbols from another time.
In front of a digital backdrop in shades of orange, pink, and purple, the women form a military formation. You’d be right if you assumed it resembled a poster from World War II.
Then something occurs. The D-Day Darlings perform a heartfelt cover of a time-honored classic that is perfectly suited to the time and the setting. I won’t tell you what the song is called so you can ruin it for yourself. All you can do is wait and see. This emotional flashback affected a lot of people.
The D-Day Darling choir was established in 2008 as a result of the members’ interest in and respect for the time period as well as their kinship with current and former members of the armed forces; for instance, one of their grandfathers, Clifford Storr, served as an RAF flight navigator for the renowned Lancaster Bomber aircraft.
They put on a strong performance that impressed the judges and the audience, but as if that weren’t impressive enough, a group of veterans in military uniforms entered the stage, adding a whole new level to this amazing performance.
It dawns on them at that point that they are not performers. The Greatest Generation’s real heroes are here right now; we are fortunate to have their presence. Thoughtful homage like this is the least we can do. For those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today, we can do a lot more.
Watch and discuss this vintage performance with a friend. Both music lovers and experts on WWII history will enjoy this unique concert. It’s an incredibly energizing performance. Enjoy the show, then share it with others.
