When St. Louis Feral Rescue heard about a mother dog living in a terrible home with her children, they felt they had to step in and help. And that’s exactly what they did.
Rescue mission
When they entered the house, they found the entire floor strewn with trash and could not believe their condition.
Once inside, I finally saw the mother dog hiding in the corner of the room with her children. But she wasn’t happy to see them.
She immediately started growling at them, warning them to stay away. Her rescuers didn’t want to overwhelm her, so they decided to leave her there and return the next day.
Second trial
Rescuers returned home early this morning, determined to save this adorable little family.
But the mother started barking at them again, not knowing they were coming to help. But St. Louis first responders had a plan. They decide to rent a kennel and keep her on a leash, thinking that’s the surest way to catch an angry mother.
They managed to attach a leash to her head and, although she resisted at first, the rescuers soon realized she was not in any danger and headed to the kennel.
After securing her inside, rescuers approached her baby and eventually brought her small family to safety.
Unfortunately, they noticed that not all of the puppies had made it. Regardless, they weren’t going to leave them behind.
“All are safe and out of this disgusting house, once and for all. We also brought the deceased back with us as well. We named them, will have them cremated, and will honor them,” wrote the rescue on a Facebook post.
New Life
Luckily, the rescuers gained the complete trust of the mama dog, allowing her to relax as soon as they got to the shelter.
There, she finally settled down in a clean and cozy environment, away from all that trash and worries.
Over time, the mother dog became more and more confident, and the children grew bigger and stronger.
