Richard Lewis, a well-known stand-up comedian from his generation, recently received a Parkinson’s disease diagnosis and said he is “finished with stand-up.”.
The 75-year-old comedian, who is also well known for playing a fictionalized version of himself on the HBO comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm, announced the news via social media yesterday.
He says it has been a “rocky time” for him during the past three and a half years, in response to fans’ inquiries about why he hasn’t been doing stand-up comedy. He talks about “what happened. ”.
Three and a half years ago, Lewis recalled, “I was in the middle of a tour, and then I finally finished it with a gig. I remarked, “You know, I’m at the top of my game.”. After almost 50 years, I’ll give up and part ways. And that made me very happy. ”.
Lewis claims that shortly after making the decision to retire, “s**t hit the fan” and he underwent four consecutive surgeries, including hip and shoulder replacements.
Lewis also revealed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
He said, “I started walking stiffly about two years ago. “I went to the doctor because I noticed that my feet were shuffled, and after a brain scan, I was given the Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. About two years ago, that incident occurred. ”.
Lewis claims that despite his dismal prognosis, he has a positive outlook on life.
“Fortunately, I found out I have it late in life, and since I’m taking the right medication and progressing very slowly, if at all, they say I’m doing fine. To simply inform you of its location was all I intended to do. Stand-up is over for me. My primary priorities are writing and acting. Despite having Parkinson’s disease, everything is fine because a doctor is taking care of me. Aside from my wife, dog, friends, and hands, I also treasure my relationships with them. And now that you are aware of its location over the previous 3.5 years. Blessings from God. ”.
