The anticipation of having a child is something that everyone who has ever done so can relate to. Thus, it can naturally be more stressful to expect two at once. When Matt and Jodi Parry found out they were expecting twins, their feelings were undoubtedly multiplied twofold. With a son already in the family, the couple eagerly anticipated the arrival of two more angels. Their excitement and joy soon turned to fear and anxiety, however, when their doctor called them into his office and said those two terrifying words: “I’m sorry. ”.
When doctors informed the parents of prematurely born twins Abigail and Isobel that they had been diagnosed with Down’s syndrome, Matt and Jodi Parry were in disbelief. However, the doctor didn’t exactly act professionally when sharing the news. He was determined to be “a lifetime punishment,” according to Jodi.
I didn’t feel like a mom that day, she admitted. “I simply felt lost and confused. It was explained to Matt and Jodi that the likelihood of having twins who are both affected by Down syndrome is one in a million.
Sadly, the parents didn’t get much support or advice on how to care for infants with Down syndrome. No one told the parents that their family of five could be content and live a normal life like everyone else, for sure. Jodi and Matt at first felt a great deal of fear. They had no idea when their daughters would learn to walk, talk, or even go to school. The family went their separate ways in an effort to gather as much information as they could. While others might have felt sorry for them and their family, those who knew Abigail and Isobel best showed them all the love in the world.
I’ll never know what he was sorry for, even today. If I could ever meet him again, I’d like to show him Abigal and Isobel and say why did you say sorry?” Jodi says, adding, “We wouldn’t change Abigail and Isobel for the world now. ”.
YouTube Five years later, the girls have demonstrated how completely mistaken the doctor and all of the prejudiced people in their immediate environment were. Abigail and Isobel are excellent examples of how every person, regardless of syndrome or not, deserves a chance in life. Just look at this family!

For many years and in several places around the world, some have made certain others try to be invisible — hiding and forgetting them just because of a diagnosis. But people with Down’s syndrome should have the same opportunities and freedoms as others — like and share if you agree! Published by Newsner, please like.
