Due to her MS issues, the Married…with Children star has given up acting.
Christina Applegate has been very candid about her health issues, especially after revealing in 2021 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
She recently said that because of her condition, she would be stepping away from the camera, and on June 7, she discussed this at Variety’s TV FYC Fest.
The 51-year-old actress opened up about her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in November and how she invited her co-stars from her most recent role (Dead to Me), in which she co-starred with Linda Cardellini and Liz Feldman, as well as those from her earlier roles (Married… with Children’s Katey Sagal and David Faustino), to stand by her side.
After a brief pause, she continued, “There was no misunderstanding as to who I requested to speak, sort of my beginning and my…, my possibly end. That was a crucial factor in my eyes. ”.
In February, while she was present at the SAG Awards, the actress hinted that Dead to Me might be her last on-screen appearance.
In an interview with Variety, she said, “This is what I had always dreamed of doing, and I couldn’t have been happier with my final bow. ”.
Christina received three Primetime Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination for her work with Linda on the show’s final season, which aired in November.
She added that the cast and crew of the Netflix show made accommodations for her after learning of her condition, adding, “We don’t know what my future will be as an actress.”.
“How do I handle it? How can I enter a situation and decide on my physical needs and boundaries? I ponder who will be as understanding and kind as this group of people was. ”.
Christina discussed how the movie’s portrayal of her suffering while she was being filmed came across. With her husband Martyn LeNoble, Christina is also the mother of Sadie Grace, a 12-year-old child.
I could see the terrible pain I was in every day I was there, and I didn’t want to go through it again, she admitted. “I had to take it in very small doses, but I still think it’s a beautiful piece of work. Liz saw something in me, and I’m so grateful to her. ”.
She might make fewer TV appearances, but she will continue to put on incredible performances off-camera.
She was excited about her upcoming voice-over projects, one of which she dubbed “one of the coolest things I’ve ever done,” her work as a producer, and her plans to start a podcast with a friend who also has MS.
The actress previously described her symptoms as insomnia, tingling and numbness in her limbs, which are telltale signs of the neurological disorder, and the inability to walk without a walking stick, which she previously described as “now part of my new normal.”. ”.
Multiple sclerosis, or MS., is a condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. It typically develops between the ages of 30 and 50, and women are more likely to experience it than men. Once diagnosed, it rarely proves fatal but continues to be crippling for the rest of your life.
