Following a fatal shooting at a Nashville school on Monday morning, Melissa Joan Hart helped kindergarten students safely cross the street.
The “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” actress, who resides in Nashville with her family, told NewsNation’s Ashleigh Banfield that she and her husband, Mark Wilkerson, were driving close to The Covenant School when the tragedy occurred. According to Hart, she observed young kids being led by a police officer and then following their teacher.
Hart exited the vehicle and continued guiding the kids across the street.
As quickly as we could, we pushed them across the street. The lecturers shied away from eye contact. They were attempting to maintain their composure, Hart said.
Hart claimed she had no idea why the kids were being pushed across the street and why more kids were being ushered out of the woods and onto the road, but she assumed there had been a gunshot.
And I was just a bystander; Hart thought, “That was so horrible.”. I’m there to assist in any way I can. It’s incomprehensible to think parents went home without their kids last night”.
Hart’s family has previously visited a school where a shooting occurred.
When she lived in Connecticut, Hart recalled rushing to pick up her first-grader from a nearby school during the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.

On Monday, Hart reported observing the same anxiety on the faces of Covenant parents. A neighbouring mother informed Hart that her kids were still in class. The mother and her kids were reunited after being taken to a fire station by Hart and her husband.
I prayed with her until my husband could carry her down the hill before I understood what she was expecting. I had two children in school and had just given birth to my third child in 2012. I was that mother in a previous life, and Hart said, “I just felt for this woman.”.
Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, all nine years old; Cynthia Peak, 61; Katherine Koonce, 60; and Mike Hill, 61, were among the six people killed by the Covenant School shooter.
Police identified Audrey Hale, 28, as the offender who legally bought at least seven firearms from local merchants, according to sources.
Metropolitan Nashville Police Department officers, neutralized the subject in less than 14 minutes.
In a bodycam video released by the MNPD on Tuesday, officers Rex Engelbert, who has been an officer for four years, and Michael Collazo, who has been an officer for nine years, are seen responding to the warning and moving across the Covenant campus.
