On Thursday, Al Roker shared some heartbreaking news with his audience, but also took the time to honor a significant individual in his life.
The Today show host took to Instagram to remember Thom Bell, a renowned Philadelphia producer, arranger, and songwriter, who was born in Jamaica and recently passed away at the age of 79.
While announcing the shocking news of Thom’s departure, Al also posted a picture of him and wrote, “It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Thom Bell, a renowned Philadelphia producer, who passed away at age 79;
His music was the soundtrack of my life. Additionally, he was a vital part of the distinctive Sound Of Philadelphia, which included The Spinners, The O’Jays, The Delfonics, The Stylistics, and Elton John. I will always be grateful for his contributions to music and his presence in my life.”
Many of Al’s fans were deeply affected by the news and took to the comments section to express their condolences. They left crying-face and praying-hand emojis as well as their own personal tributes to the late musician.
One fan wrote, “Such a terrible loss of an exceptional talent that was able to capture and create a sound like no other. Another commented, “Enjoy your peace. I really enjoy the songs you sent us. Gratitude for his family.”
Additionally, a third fan expressed sympathy and well wishes for Al’s quick recovery, writing: “Good news despite the sad news. The @todayshow would not be the same without you, so I hope you’re feeling better and getting stronger.”
