You will always cherish the memories you have of high school. Everybody remembers their high school years and reflects on the memories they have.
And even though this high school student is deaf, he can say that he created memories and made history.
Michael Gouin, 17, is a high school student just like any other, except for one minor difference—he is deaf. Even with cochlear implants, the teen faces considerable obstacles but never gives up.
A student from Woodson High School became a drummer in the band.
Michael said, “They told me they have never seen deaf people in a marching band. A deaf student is one of the drummers in the drum line, but you would never know it from watching them perform!
“I am deaf, so I cannot hear, but I can feel the vibration. So that’s why the bass is so loud; you can feel it vibrating, right?” said Gouin, a 17-year-old.
He explained that while his cochlear implants are helpful, they can occasionally cause issues. “Everything is quiet every time the battery dies,” he said. There is silence here. However, at least I can see the drum major even though it’s complicated to hear. “.
On game days, he used to require assistance from an interpreter who spoke American Sign Language, but now he handles everything by himself!
“Being deaf does not preclude you from doing anything. Anything is possible; try it and watch what happens. similar to how I joined the marching band. I never quit. We are simply normal people,” the adolescent said.
Following high school, he intends to enrol at Galludet University—the aspirational teen plans to audition for the Baltimore Ravens marching band while attending college.
