For his work in Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale, Fraser rightfully wins the top honor at this year’s Critics Choice Awards. The School Ties actor portrays a horrifyingly obese gay man who reaches out to his estranged daughter (Sadie Sink) in an effort to reconcile their differences.
Fraser’s re-entry into mainstream cinema with The Whale marks his exit from it for nearly two decades.
In addition to appearing in a few scenes with the blue-eyed boy of the industry, Brendan Fraser, in Encino Man (1992), Ke Huy Quan, a young actor who started living his Hollywood dream by playing opposite Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, also made an appearance.

But it was enough time for Fraser to develop a relationship with his young co-star, who would make an incredible comeback 30 years later in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once.
A few tears were shed in the nostalgia produced when Ke Huy Quan didn’t hold back in praising Brendan Fraser’s majesty and humility during the two actors’ reunion on The Hollywood Reporter’s Actor Roundtable.
When the former rushed to the latter in a room full of Hollywood A-listers to hug Fraser, shake his hand, and congratulate him, the love and adoration only deepened.
Brendan Fraser’s moving victory speech had already brought on the audience’s tears and a standing ovation, but this moment undoubtedly took the cake in the subsequent celebrations. And seeing the two actors get a second chance to achieve their objective while remaining pure and untarnished by the corruption of the industry felt amazing.
