Naturally, as parents, we think that our child is special and different from every other kid.
The universal belief that every child is special and unique is shared by all parents.
Mother Chrissy Corbitt, 29, is aware of this feeling very well. After giving birth to two incredibly large children, each weighing nine and ten pounds, Chrissy assumed she knew everything there was to know about pregnancy.
She had no idea that her most recent pregnancy would be quite unlike any other. Early on in her pregnancy, Chrissy and her doctors both had a sneaking suspicion that her baby would be heavier than nine pounds.
The baby’s father, Larry, explains, “Her belly just kept getting bigger and bigger, like an expanding beach ball.”.
On May 13, 2017, a stunning 13 pounds and 5 ounces of baby Carleigh was delivered via C-section (what a relief!).
Upon hearing this unexpected development, everyone in the delivery room cheered and applauded. Chrissy claims, “I had never gone through anything like that before.”.
Being too big to fit into the typical newborn outfits that her parents had painstakingly prepared caused an unexpected problem for Carleigh due to her unusual size.
Carleigh’s parents were surprised by her size, even though they had been parents four times before and considered themselves to be experts.
We ended up giving away everything we had bought in advance of her arrival at a nearby church, Larry quips in jest. Carleigh started donning baby clothes meant for a nine-month-old baby when she was just three weeks old.
While Carleigh’s size is unquestionably impressive, the Guinness Book of World Records states that a baby born in 1879 weighed an incredible 22 pounds at birth, so she does not currently hold the record for the largest infant ever born.
Chrissy, however, is incredibly proud of her daughter and says, “Carleigh is an incredibly joyful baby, always displaying a radiant smile. I just can’t seem to get enough of her. ”.
